"Jean and I decided to create a donor advised fund at the Catholic Community Foundation for a variety of reasons. First, we believe we have been blessed with many gifts from God and we want to live out our Catholic values by supporting the greater good of our community and the good work of the Catholic Church.

Second, we believe the Catholic Community Foundation is an excellent steward of our donated funds by using a best-in-class investment advisor with a dedicated investment committee that invests the funds in accordance with Catholic investment guidelines.

Third, we can donate appreciated securities without paying taxes on the capital gains and get the full value of the deductions in the current year even though the grants to charities will be made in later years. And, finally, not only have we been able to give to various Catholic causes like support for the recent hurricane and earthquake victims, but also to non-Catholic charities we believe in deeply like Rady Children's Hospital."
